Baltimore & Washington DC July 08

Kathy had to go to Baltimore for work at her companies corporate headquarters in Owings Mills, MD. Chris was able to swing the time off as well and we made a long weekend of adventure out of it.

We started off at a restaurant that we saw on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives called the Broadway Diner. The menu was very large but we did not even need to read it because we knew that we had to have....

the Seafood Festival. It is calamari, clams, scallops, mussels, shrimp and lobster tossed in marinara sauce and served over a bed of fettuccine and ....

the Potato Wrapped Salmon. It was a beautiful fillet of salmon (Atlantic, I'm guessing) wrapped in a thin "lace" of potatoes, lightly fried and served over a bed of sauteed spinach and topped with a scampi butter sauce.

After Kathy got done with work we wanted to have fresh, steamed Baltimore crabs! We went to a place that Kathy had gone on a previous trip called Nick's Crab House right on the bay.

We ordered a dozen extra large steamers that were about the size of a cereal bowl each.

We invited a co-worker of Kathy's (Robert Graham) to join us. We enjoyed the crabs with a couple of Yinglings, a New England beer, and spent about three hours sitting on a dock enjoying life.

After another day of work, we decided to go to Camden Yards and see the Orioles play the Angels.

We had excellent seats in dead centerfield about 5 rows off the field and right behind Torii Hunter (still sucks that he left the Twins).

Love the hats? They were the giveaway at the game.

On Saturday we went to Fells Point and found an awesome little bar called Max's that had the best beer list. Kathy is drinking a creme brulee stout and Chris is drinking triple pale ale.

This is another restaurant that we found on Triple D on the Food Network. It is the Blue Moon Cafe and they only serve breakfast. Kathy had the Crab Benedict and Chris had the Captain Crunch Crusted French Toast. They were both excellent.

Before heading down to DC we had to go by Charm City Cakes from the Food Network show Ace of Cakes. They do not allow people inside and we think that they may have been filming as we saw a bunch of large lights inside.

Here Kathy is in the massaging chair in our room at The Madison in Washington DC. The hotel was really nice and we really got our money's worth (it only cost us $0.25, long story).

We walked around DC a little bit and here is the White House.......

and here is the Washington Monument.

On Sunday before leaving we drove south to Virginia and went to a couple of wineries including Chrysalis, pictured here.

That Salmon looks incredible.

You couldn't get in the cake shop? That's too bad.

Probably even less luck getting in the White House.
